RCRW's Courtney Smith serves as Senator Bryan Hughes District Director but in the 86th Legislative Session Senator Hughes was selected to chair the Administration Committee and Courtney had the opportunity to serve as Clerk. There were some perks for Courtney as seen below and..... for Rusk County citizens who visited Senator Hughes office we got royal treatment when Courtney was in the House!

4th of July
Celebrate
2018

Summer was a time for education inside the classroom and outside. Opportunities for everyone!!!

Texas GOP Convention 2018 is in the books! What an educational opportunity....Rusk County you do have a voice and now we need to learn how to speak up. We watched ideas generated at the county and senate district levels move through sub committees. We watched individual planks that started in county conventions move to the delegate floor and become part of the platform. We heard from elected officials and those running for office. Most importantly, we witnessed empty delegate seats with Rusk County's name on them. Two years from now let's fill those seats!

The May meeting was a great example of how the RCRW get first hand knowledge directly from elected officials. It was a great Q & A with Travis Clardy with no limits on time or topics. We are committed to becoming informed citizens and having a great time doing it.
The March Meeting was filled with firsts: first officers sworn in, first President pinned (Janet Salyer), first silent auction (where Tina McCune prevailed) and a first great lesson on the Texas legal system by The Honorable Justice Greg Neeley.

Our April meeting was over chips at salsa at Franciscos. Senator Bryan Hughes gave a short lesson on Texas history, reminding attendees of the strength and courage of the early Texas settlers and how those traits helped form Texas as we know it today. Hughes went on to commend the ladies of Rusk County on using that same courage to make a difference in the community by becoming involved in the political process and by offering information and opportunities for those wishing to get involved.
